Trellises, Baskets, and Hanging Baskets
Plants can help to create a decorative, natural look both indoors and
outside. In section, we will be focusing on several different ways to
create a tasteful outdoor environment near your home: trellises, baskets,
and hanging baskets. Trellises can be an excellent way to display colorful
plants. The use of a trellis can provide a home with a clean, organized
look. With a trellis, it appears that your flowers are part of a wall or
window frame. It is important that the color of your trellis match the
decor or outside of your home (often earth tones can be used here).
You will also want to select trellis flowers that complement this color.
Another way to add flowers and a touch of class to your home is through
the use of baskets. One important piece of advice here before we go any
further - Don't overdue it with the baskets. Too many baskets of flowers
can make the outside of a home seem cluttered or jumbled. Use a couple
of baskets in key areas, such as by the door or on a porch area. Since
a basket often resides on a hard surface, your guest will immediately be
drawn to the basket. The flowers in a basket can be a little brighter or
colorful then the flowers in a trellis.
Hanging baskets are a variation on the baskets theme and consequently
require the same warning against overuse. Hanging baskets, particularly
in dark brown or earth tones, can be used to effectively convey a country
cottage feel. The key in selecting a hanging basket is to obtain a basket
that matches the specific decor and colors around where you plan to place
it. Most hanging baskets work well on the corner of your porch, or
hanging from the end of an overhang. The hanging basket can also be used
for plants that require more shade then others. In this case, decrease
the amount that the basket will hang down to protect the plants from the
shade.
Happy decorating!
