Arts & Crafts and The Mission Style
Gaining popularity in the last decade of the 19th century and extending into
the early part of the 20th, this style is a precursor to the minimalist
sleekness of modernism. Emphasis is on simplicity, straight lines, and
handcrafted pieces boasting dovetailed drawers and mortise and tenon joints.
Wood used for most items is oak and lacks any carved or applied decoration
or ornamentation.
Hardware, if visible, may be made from wrought iron, brass, or wood.
