American Colonial
Reminiscent of pre-revolutionary America, this style of furniture emphasizes
a simplistic, hand made appearance.
Furniture attributes display little ornamentation or decoration, with most
arms and legs turned into spindle forms rather than carved shapes. Windsor
style (also known as stick style) benches and chairs are more commonly seen
today and are often painted or left in a natural wood finish.
Woods range from the lighter oaks and maples to darker walnuts and stained
elm. A distressed look is currently popular whereby the painted finish is
marred to give it an "aged" look.
